Assessing tradeoffs in dual-mycorrhizal carbon allocation
Mycorrhizal relationships between plants and fungi are critical drivers of plant productivity and ecosystem function. Many plant species associate with either arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) or ectomycorrhizal fungi (EMF), which can have different benefits and costs to their hosts plants. As these trade-offs between AMF and EMF associations are often conflated with plant species, it is difficult to directly attribute mycorrhizal association to specific functions in relation to their plant hosts.
